  • Concussion Treatment - BHS offers highly skilled treatment from experienced therapists for post-concussion syndrome. We provide specialized assessments and individualized treatment programs for anyone who has suffered a concussion and is dealing with prolonged symptoms. We offer the IMPACT test right in our clinic as well as vestibular rehab, gaze stabilization programs, exertion programs, and return to play/sport protocols. We also offer massage therapy for those suffering from sore necks and work hardening for those who were injured at work and need to prepare to return to work after their concussion. We do our best to provide optimal communication with a patient’s family, school, work, coaches, doctors, etc. to ensure a safe return to previous lifestyle or athletic participation.

  • Industrial Rehabilitation - Injured at work or have an injury/recent surgery preventing you from returning to work safely? We can help! BHS offers work hardening, work conditioning, ergonomic assessments, post offer screenings, and back school/CTD school.

    Our program is designated for those whose ability to function in a work environment has been impaired by physical illness, or injury. Some examples of injuries include, but are not limited to: sprains, strains, joint replacements, repetitive stress injuries such as tendonitis, back injuries, and recent surgery.

    Our Work Hardening program is tailored to each person’s needs. Programs usually last 2-4 hours/day, 3-5 days/week. We develop individualized programs utilizing task analysis of your specific job description and overall fitness level. Our program includes work simulation, strengthening, conditioning, education, stretching program, and personal ergonomic recommendations. You are the primary contributor to this program and are in control of your recovery. By participating in the program, you ease the transition from injured worker to productive worker. Our primary goal is the safe, productive return of the injured worker to the work force.

  • Manual Therapy - Manual therapy is a piece of physical therapy that involves skilled hands-on treatment. Manual therapy can help to improve tissue extensibility, increase range of motion, modulate pain, mobilize and/or manipulate soft tissue and joints, reduce soft tissue swelling, inflammation, and restrictions. Techniques may include passive range of motion, mobilization/manipulation, manual stretching, manual traction, massage, and manual lymphatic drainage.

    Based upon your examination, the physical therapist selects and implements different types of manual therapy techniques to help address your specific problem. Manual treatment can help decrease pain, swelling/edema, or spasms, can help to improve health/wellness/fitness, increase ability to move, decrease restrictions and allow patient to improve overall physical function.

  • Pulmonary Rehab - The primary goals of the program are to improve the patient’s quality of life, increase their strength and endurance and to decrease their shortness of breath with activity. Overall, we aim to positively alter the patient’s lifestyle or pattern of living. Our pulmonary rehab program is individually tailored to meet the needs of every single patient under the direction of a doctor. We train, motivate, rehabilitate, and educate the patient and their significant other. Some outcomes of participating in our pulmonary rehab program are reduced hospitalizations, improved quality of life, reduced respiratory difficulty, reduced anxiety/depression, improved independence with activities, and increased survival in some patients. The following medical conditions/diagnoses are appropriate for pulmonary rehab:
    • COPD
    • Asthma
    • Chronic bronchitis
    • Emphysema
    • Cystic fibrosis
    • Sarcoidosis
    • Post-polio syndrome
    • Pre- and post- lung transplantation
    • Occupational/environmental lung disease, and many more.

A typical pulmonary rehab session lasts 45-90 minutes and consists of a warm-up, arm and leg strengthening exercises, cardiovascular endurance exercises on a variety of machines (bike, treadmill, arm bike, etc.), balance activities, and patient education regarding pacing and proper breathing mechanics at rest and with exertion. Patients are typically seen 2-3 times per week for 1-3 months.

  • Vertigo - Vertigo is a sensation of a room spinning or of dizziness or impaired balance. Vertigo is typically caused by an inner ear problem. Our skilled and competent PT staff can assess the problem and treat vertigo on the same day. If symptoms persist, the patient returns until the vertigo is gone. Vertigo treatment lasts anywhere from 30-45 minutes per session and it takes from 1-6 sessions to properly treat. The therapist will also assess a patient’s balance, gait and transfer safety, and neck range of motion and flexibility and prescribe an individualized program to address all related deficits.
  • Vital Stim Therapy - Vital Stimulation is an FDA cleared neuromuscular electrical stimulation therapy for the treatment of dysphagia. Dysphagia is difficulty swallowing affects an estimated 1 million Americans every year. In its most severe state, dysphagia can leave a person completely unable to swallow and dependent on a feeding tube.

    Dysphagia is sometimes hard to detect in mild to moderate cases: the following can be symptoms of dysphagia:

    • Coughing/clearing the throat after swallowing
    • Abnormal volitional cough
    • Decreased vocal quality
    • Recurring chest infections
    • Multiple swallows or special maneuvers required to clear throat
    • Difficulty completing a meal
    • Feeling of food being stuck in the throat
    • Requiring a modified (soft food or pureed food) diet
    • Difficulty starting a swallow
    • Spilling food or liquid from the lips or drooling
