
As Chief Quality Officer, Kathleen Dohey, MSN, RN leads quality improvement programs and processes for Independence Health System. She has oversight of Patient Safety, Quality, and Infection Prevention and Control. Additionally, she ensures organizational regulatory compliance for the Independence Health System’s sites located in Westmoreland County. She provides oversight and direction for the analysis of data related to clinical quality and patient safety. She serves as a champion for clinical excellence initiatives and leads the health system toward achieve exemplary outcomes through the utilization of evidence-based best practices. Dohey joined Excela Health Westmoreland Hospital in 1989 as a graduate nurse. Throughout her career she has held a number of leadership roles in Nursing, Risk Management, Quality, and Infection Prevention and Control. She obtained her Bachelor Degree in Nursing from Carlow College and her Master’s Degree in Nursing Administration from Waynesburg University in 2017. She has received a number of honors and accolades throughout her career. In 2018, she received the University of Pittsburgh School of Nursing’s Cameos of Caring Quality and Safety award. In 2020, she received Pittsburgh Magazine’s 2020 Pandemic Hero Response award. Dohey resides in Hempfield Township with her husband.
