Butler PA Hospitals' Economic Contributions Nearly $129 Billion During 2017

Butler, PA July 2018- During 2017, Butler Memorial Hospital contributed nearly $228,017,606 to the region’s economy, according to information released by The Hospital and Healthsystem Association of Pennsylvania (HAP). Butler Memorial Hospital also supported more than 1,410 jobs in the Butler County region, and over 2000 system wide.

Statewide, hospitals contributed $128.9 billion to the economy and supported more than 650,000 jobs—about one in ten in Pennsylvania.

“Each and every one of Pennsylvania’s hospitals plays a unique and important role in the communities they serve,” said Andy Carter, HAP president and CEO. “In addition to serving as major employers and key economic anchors, hospitals are delivering value that numbers simply cannot quantify. They are working to meet their communities’ most pressing needs, through addressing socioeconomic challenges, facilitating overdose prevention and opioid use disorder recovery programs, and coordinating emergency preparedness services.”

“This impressive contribution to the region represents just the hospital”, said Ken DeFurio, BHS President and CEO, “I suspect that the total impact from all of Butler Health System is well over $300 million.”

DeFurio added, “What really matters is patient care. We were pleased when IBM Watson notice our quality and cost and named us, for the third time, a 100 Top Hospital in the U.S.”
