Butler Memorial Hospital combines the latest advances in orthopedic medicine with the personal touch that defines good care. Whether you are seeking relief from pain associated with aging joints, have been injured in an accident, or need care for a sports related injury, our talented surgeons have years of experience in a broad range of orthopedic surgery.

Butler Memorial Hospital utilizes the latest diagnostic techniques and state-of the-art equipment. Our hospital has a dedicated floor where the nurses, physical therapists, social workers, and case management work as a team specializing in the post-operative care and rehabilitation of orthopedic patients.

Some orthopedic surgeries can be performed as an outpatient so that you can return to your home on the same day as your surgery. The skilled nursing staff in the outpatient surgery department will provide care both before and after your procedure.

Orthopedic Sub-Specialties

The following is a list of orthopedic sub-specialties:

  • Hand and Upper Extremity - Our surgeons provide treatment of acute and chronic disorders of the hand, wrist, elbow and arm including: Carpal tunnel syndrome, trigger finger, ganglion cysts, arthritis, tendon or nerve injury, and complex trauma or fractures.
  • Fractures and Injuries - Fractures and injuries can be treated in the emergency department or admitted for surgery for stabilizing a broken bone with plates, screws, pins, or rods.
  • Sports Medicine - Sports related strains, sprains, tendonitis and injuries are addressed with goal of returning the athlete or weekend warrior to sports as quickly as possible. Some of the orthopedic surgeons at BHS also provide medical sideline coverage for local high school sports teams.
  • Joint Replacement - Replacing arthritic or damaged joints with artificial parts to relive pain and improve function allows the patient to return to a more comfortable and active lifestyle. A pre-operative patient education program for both patients and their families prepares the patient to be an active participant in their care.
  • Arthroscopic Surgery - Arthroscopic surgery utilizes small incisions and a camera to examine, repair, or reconstruct injured joint structures. This minimally invasive technique allows for a more rapid recovery with less pain and reduced time away from life’s demands.
  • Foot and Ankle - We use minimally invasive arthroscopic and reconstructive surgery for treatment of complex foot and ankle trauma, arthritic conditions, and sports injuries.
  • Shoulder Surgery - Along with the most advanced arthroscopic techniques for rotator cuff repairs and shoulder stabilization, total shoulder replacement is performed routinely.
  • Spine - Our surgeons provide a range of procedures from vertebroplasty for compression fractures to spine decompression and fusion for stenosis and herniated discs.
