BHS Nurse Honored in Cameos of Caring® Program - Anne Marie Waller, RN

Butler Health System is pleased to recognize Anne Marie Waller, RN as recipient for the 2018 Cameos of Caring Program® Award. Ms. Waller was nominated by her colleagues for this distinction and will be recognized at the 18th annual Cameos of Caring Program® and Awards Gala on December 1, 2018 at the David L. Lawrence Convention center in Pittsburgh, PA.

The Cameos of Caring Program® and Awards Gala was created in 1999 to honor exceptional bedside nurses. The goals of the program are to honor outstanding nurses, increase public awareness of the nursing profession and help recruit the next generation of nurses.

Anne Marie Waller stated, “Caring for others is not just a profession, it’s a calling.” And a calling it was. Early in life Anne Marie was influenced by her work with the British Red Cross. It was there she realized her passion for helping people in need and dreamed of becoming a nurse. In 2001 she joined Butler Health System (BHS) working as a float pool aide while she pursued her degree in nursing.

A previous recipient of BHS Stars of Nursing Service award, Anne Marie takes pride in her work, and in her team of compassionate colleagues. She states “We have many critically ill patients who spend some of their last days with us on our unit. I recall one Christmas when we decorated the room of a dying patient with twinkle lights, paper snowflakes and a small tree. It wasn’t much but it gave this patient a sense of peace and comfort. The team on 5 main goes above and beyond for our patients. We have even made a marriage possible for a dying patient.”

Bill Hildebrandt, Unit Director states “Anne Marie is a mentor and coach for peers and students. She is an experienced and knowledgeable resource on the unit and exemplifies what a professional nurse is and what every nurse should strive for.”
