Butler Health System to Implement Privacy Code for Patients

Beginning Monday May 16, patients who are admitted at Butler Memorial Hospital will be given a 4-digit Privacy Code. Patients can share this code with family or caregivers that they want to authorize to obtain information over the phone about their care during their hospital stay.

The initiative was developed as a project of the Patient and Family Partnership Council for Quality and Safety, an advisory group comprised of eight community members who have been patients at Butler Memorial Hospital or their family members along with health system representatives. The group was formed to assist Butler Health System in putting patients and families first, promoting quality, safety and positive patient experiences.

“We are consistently looking for ways to improve the experiences of our patients and their families while they are hospitalized,” says Karen Allen, VP Patient Care Services. “This initiative was developed to help protect the privacy of our patients and offers greater control in the sharing of information.”

Butler Memorial Hospital joins other regional providers in implementing a Privacy Code system for loved ones who call in for information.
