BHS provides treatment options for many types of cancer, including:

  • Breast Cancer - Breast cancer is a type of cancer that forms in the cells of the breast. Both men and women can develop this type of cancer, though it is more prevalent in women. Symptoms of breast cancer can include a lump or lumps in the breast, changes in the texture or appearance of the breast and/or nipple, and an unusual or bloody discharge from the nipple.
  • Respiratory Cancers - Respiratory cancers include lung cancer and cancer of the larynx. Lung cancer is most frequent in people who smoke. Other causes of lung cancer include exposure to environmental toxins including secondhand smoke, and a family history of lung cancer. The larynx is the hollow organ that contains the vocal cords. Laryngeal cancer, or cancer of the larynx, can also be caused by use of tobacco products or excessive alcohol consumption.
  • Digestive Cancers - Digestive cancers may also be referred to as gastrointestinal (GI) cancers. This group of cancers includes cancers that affect the digestive system. Examples include colorectal cancer, stomach cancer, liver cancer, and pancreatic cancer.
  • Genitourinary Cancers - Genitourinary cancers include cancers of the prostate, ovary, kidney, bladder, and other organs of the urinary tract and reproductive system. Every patient’s treatment plan is unique. Your doctor may recommend surgery, radiation, chemotherapy, or some combination of treatments.
  • Hematologic Cancers - Hematologic cancers are cancers that originate in blood-forming tissues such as bone marrow or the cell that make up the immune system. Also known as blood cancer, this category includes lymphoma, multiple myeloma, and leukemia.
  • Skin Cancer/Melanoma - There are different types of skin cancer—a condition caused by the abnormal, uncontrolled growth of irregular skin cells, which is triggered by DNA damage to skin cells that goes unrepaired, leading to genetic defects or mutations. The most common cause of skin cell damage is overexposure to ultraviolet radiation from the sun or from use of tanning beds. Melanoma is the most serious form of skin cancer.
