The children of Dr. and Mrs. Raymond B. Blaine donated Dr. Blaine’s
office building, located at 301 North McKean Street, to the Butler Health
System on New Year’s Eve.
Dr. Blaine, a dentist, initially practiced in the Medical Arts Building
on Cunningham Street in Butler. He built the medical suite on McKean Street
in the early 1960s, where he practiced for the remainder of his career,
retiring in 2016.
Dr. Blaine practiced in Butler from 1947 until 2016, with a brief hiatus
from 1949 until 1952, when was called to serve in the US Navy. The Kane,
PA native attended Franklin and Marshall College for his undergraduate
studies and received his DDS from the University of Pittsburgh.
Dr. Blaine served as the president of the Butler Dental Society, on the
Butler School District Board of Directors and the Butler Country Club
Board of Directors.
"Our dad loved practicing dentistry," said Bill Blaine. "He
always made himself available to his patients, and he genuinely enjoyed
getting up and going to work every day. Even in his twilight years, he
was faithful to his practice and to his patients."
"We are honored and grateful for the donation of Dr. Blaine’s
office to Butler Health System", said Ken DeFurio, BHS President
and CEO. "We can keep Dr. Blaine’s commitment to his patients
- and to the community - alive through this facility. BHS continues to
grow, and this location near the hospital will be put to good use."
Upon his retirement, Dr. Blaine donated some equipment and educational
materials to the University of Pittsburgh and several other non-profit
organizations in the area.
Dr. and Mrs. (Jane) Blaine reared four children in Butler. Bill (Carol)
currently reside in Chicago, Wes (Felicia) live in Fairfax, VA, Mary (Denny
Lemmo) live in Zelienople, and Chris (Jim Medved) live in Washington, PA.
"It’s hard to close the door of our history in his office building,
but he would be proud to offer the property to the Butler Health System,
so we’re pleased to be able to donate it to them," added Bill Blaine.
