The BHS Cardiovascular Center provides patients with a network of experienced cardiac specialists, complemented by a staff of expertly-trained nurses and technicians.

 

Dr. Dean Wolz
Chief of Heart & Vascular Services

Dean Wolz, MD, FACC, is a widely-recognized expert in the field of interventional cardiology. A graduate of the West Virginia University School of Medicine, Dr. Wolz did an internal medicine residency at York Hospital, an affiliate of the University of Pennsylvania, and a cardiovascular fellowship at Allegheny General Hospital.

From 1994 to 2008, Dr. Wolz was a partner in the Frazier-Hart, Inc., Cardiovascular Group. He is board certified in internal medicine, cardiovascular disease, nuclear cardiology and cardiac angiography and is a member of the American College of Cardiology, the Pennsylvania Medical Society and the Allegheny County Medical Society.

 

Dr. George Davliakos
Director, Open Heart Surgery Program

George P. Davliakos, MD, the Director of the Open Heart Surgery Program at the BHS Cardiovascular Center, is a highly-respected cardiothoracic surgeon who practiced for 15 years with Three Rivers Cardiac Institute before joining Butler Health System.

A Pittsburgh native, Dr. Davliakos received an undergraduate degree from the University of Pennsylvania and a medical degree from the University of Pittsburgh. He did a surgical internship at Mercy Hospital and his cardiothoracic residency at the University of Massachusetts. He has staff privileges at several Pittsburgh area hospitals and is a member of the Pennsylvania and Allegheny County Medical Societies.

 

Sunder R. Rao, M.D., F.A.C.C.
Interventional & Clinical Cardiologist

Dr. Sunder R. Rao came to BHS Cardiovascular Consultants from the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, where he served as Director of the cardiac catheterization lab at UPMC Passavant.

He specializes in interventional cardiology and is also board certified in internal medicine, cardiovascular disease and nuclear cardiology.

Dr. Rao received a postdoctoral research fellowship at Yale University School of Medicine, and he served a residency in internal medicine at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center, a cardiology fellowship at Boston University Medical Center and a fellowship in interventional cardiology at St. Vincent Institute in Portland, Oregon.

He was in private practice with North Hills Cardiology Associates from 1992 to 2003 when he joined UPMC. He is a member of the Pennsylvania Medical Society, the Allegheny Medical Society, the American College of Cardiology and the New York Academy of Sciences.

 

Samer Azouz, M.D., F.A.C.C.
Interventional Cardiologist

Dr. Samer Azouz is currently offering cardiology consultations in Butler, New Castle, Grove City and Venango/Clarion county, PA.

He is board certified in interventional cardiology, cardiovascular disease and endovascular medicine, and he also specializes in services such as nuclear cardiology, echocardiogram and the treatment peripheral vascular disease.

Dr. Azouz did his internship at SUNY Stony Brook, NY, his residency at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, TX, an interventional cardiology fellowship at the University of Missouri and a cardiovascular fellowship at the University of Chicago, where he was Chief Fellow.

Dr. Azouz has been performing cardiac procedures at Butler Health System for almost a decade.

 

David J. Buchanan, D.O.
Cardiologist

Dr. David J. Buchanan is now accepting new patients in Butler, Grove City and Venango/Clarion County as the newest member of BHS Cardiovascular Consultants.

With a cardiology fellowship from the renowned Deborah Heart and Lung Center in New Jersey and a residency at Western Pennsylvania Hospital, Dr. Buchanan brings a wide range of cardiovascular skills to Butler Health System.

Dr. Buchanan believes his patients need to be educated about their conditions because with cardiovascular disease, diet and exercise can directly impact recovery. Through education, Dr. Buchanan allows his patients to play a more active role in their own health.

Dr. Buchanan is board certified in internal medicine and performs services such as outpatient cardiology and medical management of cardiovascular diseases. He specializes in a number of areas, including congestive heart failure, diagnostic cardiac catheterizations and noninvasive imaging, such as echocardiography and nuclear cardiography.
