Hand Therapy
Who Benefits From Hand Therapy?
People who suffer from:- Traumatic hand, wrist, or elbow injuries or are recovering from surgery for an injury related to one of these
- Developmental disabilities
- Repetitive motion or overuse injuries, such as carpal tunnel syndrome
- Neurologic diseases such as Parkinson’s Disease or Multiple Sclerosis
Hand dysfunction can result in:- Pain
- Swelling
- Stiffness
- Weakness
- Loss of independence
- Impaired coordination
How Is Hand Therapy Administered?
Our certified hand therapist will use a combination of treatments, including:- Hands-on techniques
- Ultrasound, electrical stimulation, and a deep heat hand treatment known as paraffin
- Rehabilitative exercises
- Cognitive-perceptual training
- Custom splint creation
- Instruction in use of adaptive equipment and prostheses
The Treatment Process Each patient is evaluated based on his or her injury, and a custom treatment plan is developed.
During the treatment process, we will help you develop, restore, or maintain the ability to function as independently as possible.
When your treatments have ended, we’ll provide you with the exercises, strategies, and equipment necessary to maintain the benefits you’ve achieved.
