Board of Trustees
Fred Y. Bennitt
Chairman
Three-year term expires: December 31, 2008
Fred Bennitt is secretary/treasurer at Sylvan Inc., a Kittanning-based
producer and distributor of products for the mushroom industry. His experience
as a business leader at Sylvan helps him in his role as a hospital trustee. “I
see myself as a custodian of resources possessed and used by the hospital
so that they are applied to the ultimate benefit of the people in the
community,” he said. Fred, who has a law degree and a master’s
in business administration, became a board member during the time Butler
Memorial was faced with a major decision – whether to become part
of a larger health system or to remain independent. “The board
made the commitment to stay an independent hospital and since then we’ve
been working toward expansion, as the hospital is growing at an astounding
pace.” In addition to the hospital, Fred works extensively with
the Butler County United Way. He also recently helped to raise funds
for the new cultural center/science and technology building at Butler
County Community College, the recent renovation of the Butler City Library,
and the Golden Tornado Foundation. “I get a great deal of satisfaction
helping to fundraise for worthy organizations,” he said.
