Q. What is the status of direct access from East Jefferson Street?

A. Trans Associates, our parking and access consultant, is evaluating access from East Jefferson Street up to the campus and is finalizing a budget and a schedule for construction. They are finalizing the “need for parking” report and preparing a parking management plan to address parking issues that will occur during the construction period. A meeting will be held this month with the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, Butler Township and the City of Butler to review the options.

Q. What is the status of demolition with the Nixon-Sarver building?

A. Professional Service Industries has finished their asbestos inspection report and the next step is to begin removal for the unoccupied portions of the building. PSI is now reviewing the rest of the BMH campus and their final report is due August 16.

Once asbestos abatement is completed and final tenants have relocated, demolition can begin. It is expected to take only a few weeks once all systems are secured. The removal must be done strategically so service for other parts of the campus is not affected. Reviewing access to outpatient registration is part of this process.

Q. Are there preliminary designs?

A. Design Group and HGA, our design architect team, continue to work on design concepts. A preliminary project budget is being developed.

Requests for Proposals were received from the four general contractors that made it to the short list. Those firms are Dick Corporation, Turner Construction, Hunt Construction Group and Walsh Construction. Dick Corporation is a local firm with its primary office in Pittsburgh. Both Turner and Walsh are national firms with Pittsburgh offices, and Hunt is a national firm with its closest office in Indianapolis. The selection committee will meet and review the RFPs and select two firms to interview shortly.

RFPs were also received for design engineering services, which include mechanical, electrical, plumbing, structural and road services. The selection committee will review RFPs from each firm for each discipline and then conduct interviews to select the firms that will ultimately be selected to join the design team.

Q. Where can the progress be reviewed?

A. Please visit the project headquarters located on the second floor of the south building. We have posted the conceptual drawings for the campus access from East Jefferson Street and also have copies of the proposals for review.
