Construction Update

The planning and programming process for the new construction project continues. The Steering Committee has taken the feedback from the first round of user groups and used it to project future space needs. Analysis and data projection is occuring, and user groups will reconvene later this summer. We will then be able to present “fit plans,” which are schematic diagrams of conceptual space layouts. We have also changed consulting firms since user groups last met. The new firm, Kurt Salmon Associates, is meeting our needs quite nicely.

In regard to the selection of an architect, we have narrowed the candidates down to four architectural firms. We intend to have a decision made the week of June 4. Between now and then, a group of clinical leaders, executives and physicians will visit hospitals these firms have designed. We will talk to the staff in these facilities to find out what they like and dislike about the buildings they are working in. This knowledge will be very beneficial in helping to choose our final architect.

These visits are not the same as “best practice” visits which will occur this summer. Many employees will be asked to participate in these visits as well.
