Q. What is happening currently?
A. We are finalizing selection of an asbestos consultant who will complete a campus-wide asbestos survey and a hazardous materials survey, first for the Nixon-Sarver Building and then for the rest of our campus next month. As part of this process, the consultant will need access to many areas. We will notify all affected departments in advance so they can make necessary adjustments to their schedules in order to have the least amount of disruption.
Q. Where are we in the planning and programming process?
A. Planning efforts began a few weeks ago with a department directors meeting and a request for information. The next step is to gather more information from many of you through User Groups. The first round of meetings will be February 27 through March 2. This round will consist of four separate groups representing Med/Surg, SICU/MICU, Surgery and the Emergency Department. Planning Decision Resources will facilitate all of the User Group meetings and more areas will be involved in the future. Here are the participants for next week:

Q. Has a location for the new patient tower been determined?
A. No. Test Boring Services and Civil Environmental Consultants will be conducting test bore drilling on campus this week at various locations on site. This may require temporary traffic flow or parking adjustments and we ask for your patience during this process. This drilling will determine whether certain areas of the campus are suitable for construction. The drilling will take place on one spot on the front lot, one spot off to the side of the entrance drive and parking garage, one spot in the middle section of the physician’s lot, one spot on the banana lot and one spot in the front of the Nixon-Sarver drop off area.
Q. Was parking assessed?
A. Trans Associates is completing their campus parking analysis this week after collecting data over the past few weeks. Once their report is drafted it will be used to assist in the overall planning for the campus.
Q. Have we selected an architect?
A. Architect Requests for Quotes (RFQ) will be sent out this week. RFQs can be considered a pre-screening method to determine the interest, abilities and competencies of any architectural firms interested in submitting a proposal for design of the new patient tower.
Q. What departments have moved recently?
A. A number of moves have taken place over the past few weeks as we try to make the best use of space we have here on campus. The Diabetes Management Center has been relocated to the first floor to the space that was previously the Medical Staff Library, and the library moved to the Medical Staff lounge. The Construction Project Management offices have been relocated into the former Diabetes Center on the second floor. Disruptions are unavoidable but we make every effort to minimize this. Constant change will be an ongoing theme and we ask for flexibility and support as we work through our construction project for the next few years. |
