Q. Where are we in the planning process?

A. We are hiring a planning and programming consultant.

Q. What is a planning and programming consultant?

A. These are the experts who facilitate user groups – you – in determining the most functional and efficient use of new and renovated space. The planning and programming consultant also makes sure that the layout of the facility makes sense. For example, central sterile and operating room storage needs should be close to the operating rooms themselves. Another example would be having the cardiac catheterization lab close to the emergency room for immediate treatment of heart attacks. These issues as well as hundreds of others will be the topics of discussion as we go through the planning and programming phase.

Q. Have we hired a planning and programming consultant?

A. Yes. Planning Decision Resources (PDR), one of the leading planning firms in the country, has just been engaged for our project. The firm’s President, George Pressler, is a nationally recognized expert in hospital planning. Mr. Pressler will be working directly with the Steering Committee and user groups to help us organize the new facility and to help us improve our existing buildings. We expect Mr. Pressler to be in Butler the week of January 29 for a series of kick-off meetings.

Q. How will we be involved in the planning and programming process?

A. Some of you will be asked to attend these meetings where we’ll talk about the overall project in general and the planning and programming process in particular. All of you will be kept informed as concepts are developed and decisions are made.
