(BUTLER, Pa.) - Margaret Irvine Weir has been appointed the newest member of the Butler Health System Board. Recently named one of 2009’s Top 25 Women in Business by the Pittsburgh Business Times, Irvine Weir is the fourth-generation president of the family-owned NexTier Bank.
“Ms. Weir leads NexTier Bank – a top notch, community-based, independent organization that performs well in an intensely competitive industry. The Butler Health System can be described the same way. She will be invaluable to the BHS Board of Trustees as we face the challenges of the future,” says Ken DeFurio, Butler Health System President & CEO.
Irvine Weir received her BSBA degree in finance from the University of Maryland. After completing her education, she held several positions at various banks in the Washington D.C. area until becoming vice president of Quality Customer Service at NexTier Bank in 1990. She then worked her way to become executive vice president in 1997, and president in 2000. Recently, Irvine Weir was re-appointed to her second term as the director of the Pittsburgh Office of the Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland.
Honored by the Woodlands Foundation in 2008 for her dedication to youth financial education and support of the Pittsburgh community, Irvine Weir was also appointed by the Butler County commissioners to the County’s 2008 Strategic Plan Task Force. She also served a three-year term as the Chair of Economics Pennsylvania’s President’s Council, is a board member of the Regional Learning Alliance of Pittsburgh and a member of the Young President’s Organization. Under her leadership, NexTier was the recipient of the 2008 “Torch Award for Marketplace Ethics” from the Better Business Bureau of Western PA.
“Ms. Weir’s high visibility and support in the community, plus her financial and business expertise, makes her an excellent addition to the BHS Board of Trustees,” says Fiore Londino, BHS Board of Trustees Chairman.
