BMH Receives Recognition as Best Places to Work in Pennsylvania

January 10, 2008 - (BUTLER, PA) - Butler Memorial Hospital was recently named as one of the Best Places to Work in Pennsylvania. During the awards program, held in Hershey, PA, BMH was named as a large-size winner for the entire state of Pennsylvania. This is the second year BMH received this recognition.

"It is an honor that the employees of Butler Health System hold the organization for which they work in such high regard," says President and CEO Ken DeFurio. "We are dedicated to giving our employees the resources they need to be satisfied professionally."

This award program was created in 2000 and is one of the first of its kind offered by a state in the country. The program is a public/private partnership of the Team Pennsylvania Foundation, the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development, the Pennsylvania Chamber of Business and Industry, and the Central Penn Business Journal.

This statewide survey and awards program was designed to identify, recognize and honor the best places of employment in Pennsylvania, benefiting the state's economy, its workforce and businesses. The Best Places to Work in PA program recognizes 100 companies split into two groups: 50 medium-sized companies (25 to 250 employees) and 50 large-sized companies (251 or more employees). Winners employ more than 80,000 Pennsylvanians.

To be considered for recognition, companies had to fulfill the following eligibility requirements:

  • Have at least 25 employees in Pennsylvania
  • Be a for-profit or non-profit business
  • Be a publicly or privately held business
  • Have a facility in Pennsylvania
  • Be in good standing with Commonwealth agencies under the Governor's jurisdiction

Through the research process, a survey is sent to both the employers and employees from hundreds of companies across the Commonwealth. Using a formula similar to Fortune's "100 Best Companies to Work for in America," the Best Companies Group in coordination with ModernThink LLC scores the workplace practices survey along with the employee survey, and each Best Places to Work candidate is given an overall score.
