Center for Wound Care of BMH Opens at Benbrook Medical Center
November 15, 2007 - (BUTLER, PA) – Butler Health System (BHS) has opened the first comprehensive wound care center in Butler County at Benbrook Medical Center.
The Center for Wound Care of Butler Memorial Hospital is a comprehensive program featuring a multidisciplinary staff and innovative approaches to wound management and healing, including hyperbaric oxygen therapy.
The Center for Wound Care of BMH will offer patients a team of experts, including podiatrists, infectious disease physicians, plastic surgery physicians, registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, certified wound specialists and lymphedema specialists.
“Our staff of highly trained professionals is experienced and available to provide patients with advanced wound care to facilitate the healing process,” said Sandra Teitelbaum, Program Manager for the Center for Wound Care of BMH.
Healing With Oxygen
One of the center’s distinguishing features is its hyperbaric oxygen chamber. During this treatment, patients receive 100 percent oxygen in a pressurized chamber, allowing for maximum healing of their wounds.
“The Center for Wound Care was created to provide a comprehensive approach to treating problematic wounds and to ensure quality wound care management for all patients with nonhealing wounds,” says Teitelbaum.
Oxygen therapy helps to treat all types of conditions including diabetic leg and foot wounds and ulcers; chronic bone infection; radiation-related problems; compromised skin grafts; crush injuries; burns and nonhealing traumatic or surgical wounds.
A Focus on Healing
In addition to offering hyperbaric oxygen treatment, the Center for Wound Care of BMH will also offer the following conventional treatments:
- Advanced wound dressings
- Topical medicines
- Removal of dead or damaged tissue
