BMH Hires Health Coach; Begins Wellness Programs

August 9, 2006 - (BUTLER, PA) - Butler Memorial Hospital recently welcomed Fred Como as the new Health Coach and is beginning to implement an expanded wellness program for employees.

The Wellness Program was a concept initially discussed when Stephanie Roskovski was added to administrative team as the Special Assistant to the President for a Healthy Workplace.

“The idea behind the program was that we needed to implement positive changes with our workforce to reduced related medical expenses because of chronic health issues,” says Roskovski. “Since that time, many employees have benefited from the weight reduction program we offered on-site for several years and the walking program that we did two years ago with pedometers. Now it is time to expand on both of those successes to develop a more comprehensive program for those employees that want to make more lifestyle changes.”

He holds a bachelor of science degree in health, policy and administration with a minor in exercise and sport science from Pennsylvania State University. He also holds a massage therapy certificate, was a master Reiki practitioner completed a thought field therapy program and served as a life coach.

“This position will allow me to develop and implement a wellness program based on my education and previous experience so that there can be positive change in the well-being of BMH employees,” says Como. “I believe that one needs to balance mind, body and spirit to have a proper health style and we are very focused on creating a healthy balance in our work environment.”

Employees that chose to participate in the Wellness Program will undergo a physical, blood work, and a health-risk analysis. From there they will meet with Como to design a personalized health program and receive assistance in navigating through the program including, health coaching, gym subsidies, wellness profiles, activity tracker and prizes. Participants will receive on-going follow-up as needed and monitoring of their goals.
