BHS Administrator Appointed Interim President and CEO
November 2, 2006 - (BUTLER, PA) -
Ken DeFurio was recently promoted to the position of interim President and CEO at BHS. He has been a member of the administrative team since 1996 most recently as Senior Vice President, Operations and Chief Operating officer.
Ken earned a bachelor of science degree from Indiana University of Pennsylvania where he majored in respiratory therapy. He also earned his master’s of business administration from the University of Pittsburgh – Katz Graduate School of Business.
He started his career as a staff respiratory therapist at Butler Memorial Hospital in 1986. He then went on to serve as assistant director of respiratory care services at the University of Maryland Medical System in Baltimore for two years before returning to BMH in 1989 as assistant director of respiratory care services.
He spent six years as director of rehabilitation and respiratory care services and planned and implemented the opening of the Center for Sleep Disorders. He then joined the BMH administrative team as executive director of outpatient services where he added 15 off-site locations throughout Butler County to the health system and oversaw the implementation one of the first and most comprehensive installations of digital imaging in any community hospital in the United States. He was promoted to Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer in 2003 where he was a key participant in master facility planning and was responsible for day-to-day oversight of operations that included clinical and business performance.
In addition, Ken is a board member for Butler County Chamber of Commerce and Butler Road Race and has served as a Butler Area Soccer Association coach for the past eight years.
Ken was born at BMH, grew up in Indiana, PA and has lived in Butler Township for the past 17 years with his wife, Tracey, and their daughter, Alison. In his spare time, he enjoys hockey, skiing, cycling, travel and reading.
DeFurio is a diplomat of the American College of Healthcare Executives, a member of American Hospital Association’s Society for Healthcare Strategy and Market Development, and a COO affinity group member of the National VHA Shareholders and VHA. |
