BMH Physician One of first in Nation to be Designated Fellow of the American Society of Echocardiography

July 5 , 2006 - (BUTLER, PA) - Jeffrey C. Astbury, M.D., MSBE, MSEE, FASE has been designated a Fellow of the American Society of Echocardiography, recognizing his commitment to excellence in cardiovascular ultrasound and its application to patient care through education, research and service. Dr. Astbury was the seventh anesthesiologist in the nation to have achieved this honor. He is in practice with Butler Anesthesia Associates, P.C. and has been a part of the medical staff at Butler Memorial Hospital since March 2006.

After completing degrees in physics at Edinboro University; electrical engineering at the University of Pittsburgh; and biomedical engineering at the University of Pennsylvania; Dr. Astbury obtained a medical degree from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, residency/board certification in anesthesiology and additional training in cardiac anesthesiology and echocardiography.

Dr. Astbury has been active in research, teaching and the clinical application of echocardiography in the perioperative period. His research has been focused on the mechanisms and the loading conditions on mitral regurgitation. He has completed the examination in perioperative echocardiography. He is certified in adult transesophageal echocardiography by the National Board of Echocardiography. Dr. Astbury has created and taught a comprehensive course in echocardiography at three institutions, helping several physicians prepare for certification in perioperative echocardiography.

Currently Dr. Astbury serves as the director of cardiothoracic anesthesia and staff anesthesiologist with Butler Anesthesia Associates, the anesthesiology group that serves Butler Memorial Hospital.

Dr. Astbury resides in Mars, PA with his wife Kimberly and their four sons.
