BMH Ranks Fourth In Best Places to Work for Pennsylvania

December 18, 2006 - (BUTLER, PA) - Butler Memorial Hospital (BMH) was recently named as one of the Best Places to Work in Pennsylvania. During the awards program, held in Hershey, Pa., BMH was named fourth place in the large-size category for the entire state of Pennsylvania.

“We are deeply honored that the employees of Butler Health System hold the organization for which they work in such high regard,” says interim President and CEO Ken DeFurio. “We are dedicated to giving our employees the resources they need to be satisfied professionally. We also strive to provide convenient services to create a work/ life balance, and this confirms we are doing things right.

This award program was created in 2000 and is one of the first of its kind offered by a state in the country. The program is a public/private partnership of the Team Pennsylvania Foundation, the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development, the Pennsylvania Chamber of Business and Industry and the Central Penn Business Journal.

This statewide survey and awards program was designed to identify, recognize and honor the best places of employment in Pennsylvania, benefiting the state’s economy, workforce and businesses. The Best Place to Work in PA program recognizes 100 companies split into two groups: 50 medium-sized companies (25 to 250 employees) and 50 large-sized companies (251 or more employees).

To be considered for recognition, companies had to fulfill the following eligibility requirements:

  • Have at least 25 employees in Pennsylvania
  • Be a for-profit or non-for-profit business
  • Be a publicly or privately held business
  • Have a facility in Pennsylvania and
  • Be in good standing with Commonwealth agencies under the Governor’s jurisdiction

Companies from across the state entered the two-part assessment process to determine the 100 Best Places to Work in PA. The first part consisted of evaluating each company’s workplace policies, practices, philosophy, systems and demographics. This part of the process was worth approximately 25% of the total evaluation. The second part consisted of an employee survey to measure people’s experience. Nearly 20,000 Pennsylvania employees filled out the survey. This part was worth approximately 75% of the total evaluation. The combined scores determined the top companies and the final ranking. Best Companies Group managed the overall registration and survey process in Pennsylvania with assistance from Modern Think LLC, who analyzed the data and used their expertise to determine the final rankings.
