BMH, Physicians kick off Phase I of new health system for Butler region

May 17, 2005 - (BUTLER, Pa.) – Doctors on staff at Butler Memorial Hospital, in a joint venture with Butler Memorial Hospital, celebrated the construction of the new health care campus, the first phase of the BMH new hospital project, with a “topping off” ceremony Thursday.

Construction has begun on the 56,000 square foot facility, located on South Benbrook Road in Butler Township. The campus will include state-of-the-art services, including a freestanding ambulatory surgery center for surgeries such as eye, ear, nose, throat, foot, bone & joint, urologic and pediatric surgeries, specialty outpatient cancer care like radiation oncology and chemotherapy, physician office space and hospital diagnostics such as lab and x-ray testing.

The ceremony recognizes an American flag having been placed on top of the building as a symbol of safety and that construction is on its way.

“Today’s gathering of physicians and hospital representatives, is the culmination of people recognizing a need to work together to bring the next level of advanced care to our community—right here in our backyard,” said Dr. Anthony Smaldino, spokesperson for the doctors working with the hospital to create this campus. “We’re pleased to be partners with these physicians as we build the future of health care in this county,” said Joseph A. Stewart, president and CEO of BMH. “We’re proud of the standard of care we both have set. The services at this location are just the start. As the first phase of our new care system for our community, today’s event signifies progress as we take what we’ve learned in years of planning and begin what will be an exciting project for this community.”

In addition to representatives of the physicians and the hospital, children were involved in the topping off ceremony to show that the new care system was being created for the future.
