Butler Memorial Hospital to Continue Offering Flu Vaccine to High-Risk Adults

December 22, 2004 - (BUTLER, PA) – With an appointment, anyone 65 and older and 18-64 with a prescription from their doctor indicating they are at high risk for contracting the flu can receive a flu shot on Wednesday, Dec. 29, from Butler Memorial Hospital. The shots will be given at the Vagabond Center at 138 Whitestown Road in Lyndora.

Individuals meeting these criteria should call BMH’s Education Department between 8:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday to schedule an appointment for the shot.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have identified the following adult priority groups for vaccination:
  • adults 65 and older;
  • people 18 and older with underlying chronic medical conditions, such as asthma, diabetes, heart disease, or a weakened immune system;
  • all women who will be pregnant during the flu season;
  • residents of nursing homes and long-term care facilities;
  • healthcare workers involved in direct patient care; and
  • out-of-home caregivers and household contacts of children under 6 months old.
