The BMH Auxiliary was started in 1896 when a group of women decided to establish a hospital in Butler County. After raising the funds to build the first hospital, the members met each month to keep the hospital kitchen equipped and roll bandages.

In 1945, the group was reorganized as an Auxiliary and opened the Hostess Shop, a coffee shop at the hospital, and the Cherry Tree gift shop. Currently, there are approximately 320 members who annually donate more than 26,000 hours of their time at the hospital.

The Auxiliary also sponsors a junior Auxiliary called the Candystripers for youth still in high school. Each year, the Auxiliary makes a sizeable donation to the hospital to purchase equipment and support hospital services.
