BMH Junior Auxiliary to Mark 50th Anniversary with Reunion on June 13June 2, 2004 - The Junior Auxiliary of Butler Memorial Hospital will mark it’s 50th anniversary with a reunion on Sunday, June 13 from 1 to 4 p.m. in Phillips Hall at the hospital.
All current and previous members of the Junior Auxiliary (Candystripers) are invited to attend this event to reminisce about their days at BMH. Hospital tours will be available and refreshments will be served.
The event will be a chance to walk down memory lane and reconnect with old friends. Each former or current Junior Auxiliary member in attendance will be presented with a souvenir as a token of appreciation from the hospital in remembrance of the years dedicated to volunteering as a member of the Junior Auxiliary. There will also be a gift basket raffle featuring five different baskets valued at $50 each.
The Junior Auxiliary was formed in 1954 by the BMH Auxiliary under the direction of the late Louise Hetrick as a way for high school students to serve as volunteers and learn about the medical field. There are 47 members in this year’s group. The Junior Auxiliary is led by advisors JoAnne Nolsheim, Vonnie Neigh and Lorraine Kesterson, who is retiring in June.
“The purpose of the Junior Auxiliary is to foster a volunteer spirit in our young people and to expose them to the medical field and future opportunities within their community hospital,” says Kim Reamer, director of Volunteers Services at BMH, which serves as the liaison for the volunteer program.
Members of the Junior Auxiliary must be in ninth grade when they submit their applications and they are allowed to remain members until they graduate from high school. New applications are due in February and orientation is typically held in May. Junior Auxiliary members must donate 100 hours of service each year and work in many capacities and many departments through the hospital.
Those interested in learning more about the Junior Auxiliary can contact Kim Reamer, Director of Volunteer Services at (724) 284-4342.
