Butler Memorial Hospital Named One of the 100 Best Places to Work in PA for 2004December 6, 2004 - Butler Memorial Hospital has been named one of the 100 Best Places to Work in PA for 2004.
The Best Places to Work in PA award program is designed to identify, recognize, and honor the best places of employment in Pennsylvania. Fifty large-sized companies (more than 250 employees) and 50 medium-sized companies (50-250 employees) were named to the list. With more than 1,600 employees, BMH falls into the large company category and was ranked 28th in the state in that category.
“While we are thrilled to receive this award, our focus is on creating a healthy workplace, a place where people want to come to work. Because work is such a major part of people’s lives, we are continually working to create an environment where people want to be,” said BMH President and CEO Joe Stewart.
Several organizations, including the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development, the Pennsylvania Chamber of Business and Industry, and the Great Place to Work® Institute (GPTWI), combined to develop and manage the process used to determine the winners. GPTWI conducts the annual Fortune magazine survey that is used to determine Fortune’s "100 Best Companies to Work for in America" list.
Candidates for the award are scored based on employee surveys (75 percent of total score) and evaluation of workplace policies, practices, philosophy, systems, and demographics (25 percent of total score). The 50 highest scoring organizations in each category then are named to the list.
“With employee surveys being the primary determining factor in whether an organization is named to the Best Places to Work in PA list, it is satisfying to know that our employees feel Butler Memorial Hospital is a good place to work,” said Stephanie Roskovski, special assistant to the president for a healthy workplace. “If employees didn’t rate us high, we wouldn’t have made the list.
“We realize we need to have the best employees to achieve unsurpassed care, and to have the best employees, we have to have a great place to work.”
The Best Places to Work in PA program, created in 2000, is the first of its kind offered by a state in the country. To be considered for participation, companies had to - be a for-profit or not-for-profit business;
- be a publicly or privately held business;
- have a facility in Pennsylvania;
- have at least 50 employees in Pennsylvania; and
- be in good standing with state agencies under the governor’s jurisdiction.
