The Caring Angel Program

$1 Million and Counting

The Caring Angel Program began in 1992 as a holiday fund-raising event that supports children, youth and families in Butler County. The event, which began as a small project, has blossomed into a community-supported effort that raises nearly $100,000 each year. Since the beginning of the campaign, more than $1 million has been raised.

2006 Campaign Summary

Butler Memorial Hospital’s 2006 Caring Angel Campaign finished another successful year – raising over $95,000 to benefit children, youth and their families in Butler County. The co-chairs for this year’s campaign were Dr. Ed Fink from the Butler Area School District and Larry Berg, retired Butler radio personality. Of the money that was raised, $31,245 was raised by local schools.

The 2006 Caring Angel Campaign was kicked-off with the performance of “Late Nite Catechism” on September 30th. This was a partnership with the Golden Tornado Scholastic Foundation. This year, the foundations are hosting the production of “Sister’s Christmas Catechism – The Mystery of the Magi’s Gold” on November 3, 2007.

Other events included an Employee Basket Auction, Celebrity Wait and the Caring Angel Community Celebration:

Basket Auction
Over 50 baskets were donated by BMH employees, physician offices, ambulance service providers and local businesses, and the auction raised more than $19,000 in ticket sales from BMH employees and community members. The winner of the favorite basket competition was “Sizzlin Christmas,” which was donated by OR, Anesthesiology and OPS2 staff.

Celebrity Wait
Shelley Duffy from KDKA News Radio 1020, Tracey Morgan and Heather Meyers from Y-108 were among the several local celebrities who waited tables as part of the Celebrity Wait at the Texas Roadhouse on Monday, November 6th. Over $1,500 was raised that evening for the Caring Angel Program.

Community Celebration
The television show was held on December 15th at the Butler High School TV Production Studio. This was an opportunity for schools and groups who raised money for the Caring Angel Program to present their donation live on the air. The show aired on Channel 10 and Channel 50.

The 2007 Campaign is in progress. If you would like to make a donation or obtain additional information on how you or your group can become involved, please contact the BHS Foundation office at 724-284-4716.

How the Caring Angel Funds Are Used

The funds raised through the Caring Angel Program provide support in three vital areas. These are: (1) BMH Family Services, who provide educational, therapeutic and support services to children, youth and families; (2) The BMH Recovery Project, a support group for recovering young addicts; and (3) the BMH Emergency department, which annually provides over $100,000 in services to children whose parents or guardians do not have insurance or resources to pay.

Family and Youth Services

A portion of the funds is given to the Family First Resource Center of Butler Memorial Hospital, which provides many needed services to children and their families. For the past two years, the Caring Angel Program has also helped to support the Butler Regional Recovery Club, a drop-in center for recovering young addicts.
